2019 Robot
For the Hatch and Cargo manipulation, the final design uses a drawbridge technique along a pivot point allowed for the intake arms to be pulled upwards to 86º above horizontal. The arms move along a combination thread bar and stabilizing bar system with a 7:1 initial gear reduction on the  775pro motor. When brought together the wheels narrowly fit within the center opening of the Hatch, allowing for quick, powerful removal and placement.
Our Hatch and Cargo delivery system utilizes an Elevator Lift. The Elevator Lift uses three independent rectangles to extend to a maximum height of 78”. As the primary structure, two sections of three inch C-Channel form the first rectangle. Then, sections of two inch C-Channel ride on the interior of the three inch sections. Finally, the elevator car is made of two large plates connecting three inch C-Channel segments. The movement of the elevator is guided by bearings, mounted to each section of C-Channel. Each section is connected by a 15mm HDT Timing Belt, which is tensioned on the Elevator car.
For our endgame lifter, we designed a 4-bar linkage system that would extend, lifting the robot to level three during endgame. This system uses two identical 4-bar designs, which keep the bottom “foot” parallel with the robot. This keeps the robot level, preventing us from tipping over. The gearbox for the Lifter uses a series of gear ratios to get the maximum amount of torque from a Mini CIM.
